Celery juice – is it just another fad?

Celery juice is essentially just celery sticks that have been thrown into a juicer to make a lovely green and healthy-looking smoothie.

Celery juice first arose when a medical medium stated that it was “the most powerful medicine of our time”.  But what is a medical medium? A medical medium is a person who gives medical advice based on the communication with a spirit from the future.

The benefits of celery juice when it’s drunk solo, meaning with no other ingredients in it and on an empty stomach, are numerous according to the medical medium.

Celery juice has been said to:

  • Aid with chronic acid reflux.
  • Fight against autoimmune diseases.
  • Help restore adrenals.
  • Neutralise and flush toxins out of the liver.
  • Help eradicate strep bacteria.
  • Kill Epstein-Barr and shingles virus.
  • Bring down toxic liver heat.
  • Be a powerful weapon against small intestinal bowel overgrowth (SIBO) and bloating.
  • Contain sodium cluster salts that act as an antiseptic.
  • Repair hydrochloric acid and liver bile production.

Unfortunately, there is little to no research on the benefits of celery juice in humans and therefore the claims above are effectively just hearsay, at least for now. Because of the high-profile nature of celery juice in certain media platforms, research is ongoing.

Of course, celery juice as part of a healthy diet, perhaps one you design with the aide of one of our dieticians in Camberwell, is not a bad thing to include at all. Celery includes many beneficial nutrients, such as, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin A and Folate. Unfortunately, the process of juicing removes the fibre in celery, the component that makes for a happy, healthy gut. Therefore, it is suggested to eat celery whole or blending it into a smoothie. Another important thing to note is that if your diet is relatively healthy and exercising is a routine part of your lifestyle your liver has pretty powerful detox capabilities itself.

In summary, celery juice is not an adequate replacement for other nutritious foods or meals. There is little to evidence that celery juice is a miracle cure for a number of different health conditions. Its exposure was brought about by an opinion only and therefore caution should be exercised when thinking about extreme dietary changes.
